Review: iriver Mplayer portable speaker

The iriver Mplayer, better known as the Mickey Mouse MP3 player, recently made a new friend.

Iriver_mplayer_speaker

It's called the iriver Mplayer portable speaker, a precious 1.1-watt speaker that can connect to practically anything and isn't yet available in the US. Not without the help of friendly importers like Warehouse123, anyway.

Read my full review and check out a smattering of pictures below.

Ces08_clix_coupon

If you've been considering the iriver clix 2 as your next digital media player but haven't been too keen on the price, you'll be pleased to know that iriver America is honoring a special discount coupon good for 25% off a 4G clix or clix Rhapsody. The coupons were available at the company's CES booth, where the player was represented by the newly released (in Korea) DMB-enabled clix+, so they're only good for a limited time.

Iriver W7 wins Best of CES award

Update 4.14.08: Check out my full iriver W7 review.

Ces08_iriver_w7

The iriver W7, the wifi-less version of the otherwise identical W10, won top honors in the MP3 and Portable Video category of CNET's annual "Best of CES" awards. The press release announcing the player's win describes the upcoming device as "groundbreaking" because it "takes the MP3 player to new levels of on-the-go functionality with its optional GPS capability via a separate car mount."

Tiny iriver D5 multimedia e-dictionary

Ces08_iriver_d5

Though not as appealing to me as the iriver Wing, the super compact iriver D5 e-dictionary still has me considering a deal with anyone in Korea willing to get me one in exchange for my long-in-the-tooth D26 clamshell.

Not only is the D5 infinitely more attractive in its metal-finished casing than the D26, it's also more capable with Flash and video support (MPEG4-SP, 15fps). If it weren't for its Korean interface, I may not have been able to put it down when I got some time with it this week. It's just way too cute!

CES 2008: iriver SPINN, P10, LPlayer, E100, iAMOLED digital media players

Ces08_iriver

While taking pictures of the iriver Wing at the company's booth yesterday, we also took a peek at the extensive line-up of new digital media players scheduled for release throughout the year. I had the info for a few weeks before the show, so I zeroed in on the ones that interested me most. Below you'll find full specs, live shots, and official product images of the iriver SPINN, P10, LPlayer, E100, and iAMOLED devices.

Folding iriver Wing handheld PC runs Windows CE

Iriver_logoI'm meeting with iriver this afternoon for what I hope will be some hands-on time with all of their new products (more on this later), but I didn't want to wait until then to tell you about the Wing, the company's brand new foldable ultraportable handheld PC. I've been sitting on the details of the device for several weeks, so to say that I'm thrilled that the embargo has finally been lifted is putting it mildly.

I'll post some live shots and maybe even a video after the meeting, but until then, here's everything I know about the Wing so far. Dig in!

Review: iriver Mplayer

Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me? Based on the new 1GB Mplayer, my guess would be iriver.

Iriver_mplayer_main

Originally commissioned by Disney for Hong Kong Disneyland, the iriver Mplayer has just recently become available in South Korea, which looks to be its only official destination outside of the amusement park.

But should a silly detail like your home country be allowed to come between your hands and an MP3-playing Mickey Mouse head? Warehouse123 doesn't think so!

Importer brings 8GB iriver clix 2 to U.S.

8gb_iriver_clix2

The 8GB "red line" version of the superb iriver clix 2 media player may be officially available only in Korea right now, but you know that doesn't mean you can't get one, right? So you don't live in Korea. So what? Just click on over to Warehouse123.com with $312 (Update 12.19.07: Price reduced to $229) and order one. You'll even get a bunch of free bonus accessories, including an FM transmitter, screen protector, and a pair of Pioneer SE-E55 headphones.

The player is on backorder right now, but according to pocketables reader Stephen, it was in stock and shipping a few days ago. I'm not sure how long it will be before a new shipment arrives, but wouldn't you rather at least reserve one now? If not, you'll be waiting until about mid-August for an official U.S. release.

Clix_cradle_main

One of the most uniquely designed and stylish accessories made exclusively for use with the iriver clix 2 is its official cradle, which not only charges and syncs the player but also enables audio playback through its integrated speaker and headphone jack.

Too good to be true? Read on to find out.
