ClarionMiND gets official

The Atom-based Clarion MID shown at CES 2008 under the development codename MiND (mobile internet navigation device) was made official today at IDF in San Francisco. Now called the ClarionMiND, the newly designed device is being heralded as "revolutionary" by its maker because it "combines connected personal GPS navigation and real-time Points of Interest (POI) with Internet based entertainment and full web browsing."

Features of the ClarionMiND include:

• 800MHz Intel Atom Z500 processor
• 512MB RAM
• 4GB SSD
• 4.8" 800 x 480 touchscreen
• Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS
• Linux OS 2.6.22
• microSD slot, 2 USB ports
• Apps: YouTube, MySpace, media player, web browser, Google Earth, Google maps, email, PDF viewer, calcuator, RSS reader, file manager

The US-bound unit will begin shipping in Q4 of this year.
