New OQO Model 02: Better specs, better prices

Oqo_02_price_cutAccording to a press release bearing tomorrow's date, OQO has just upgraded their Model 02 line of sliding-display UMPCs and reduced the starting price to $1299 (down $200 from the original base configuration).

The upgrades include an increase in storage capacity (40GB, 80GB, and 120GB), a 32GB SSD option, processor speeds topping out at 1.6GHz, and EV-DO Rev A mobile broadband connectivity from either Verizon Wireless or Sprint.

Presumably because the new units aren't supposed to be announced until tomorrow, the OQO online store doesn't yet list the updated models or prices. (Screen capture of current stock below.)

I'm so confused about this whole thing. Where did the press release come from? Was it leaked? And who got their hands on it?

Benz, it came from JKK, to Chippy, then I am assuming to Jenn.

They leaked the press release. It's embargoed from publication until tomorrow morning.

I interviewed OQO and it will go live at 7am CST Monday morning.

Great, looking forward to it James.

I think this is PR mess up. Why would they put out the press release, but not update their website? hmm.

Maybe they'll offer $100 to early adopters, like Apple did (ok, wishful thinking)

Oh my. No, I just read it on the Origami Project forums this afternoon. I googled portions of the release so I could link to something more official but couldn't find anything. Now we know from James why!

In any case, the new price is good news. I wonder if Sony will follow suit . . .

I got it by email from a friend without any embargos, did a search and saw it in 2 other sites, tried to confirm it from oqo but they have blocked europeans to access their site...

... so i posted it.

It's live now.
