Sharp announces EM ONE for Japan
This is unexpected! Within a month of proclaiming that the Zaurus series is no more, Sharp is already getting ready to push something new (and better) out the door.
The Japan-only EM ONE runs Windows Mobile 5.0 on a 520MHz Marvell PXA270 processor, 128MB RAM, and 512MB ROM and sports a 4.1-inch (800 x 480, 65K colors) touch screen that slides up to reveal a QWERTY keyboard and control pad, as well as to the left to reveal just the pad.
It's being released at the end of March alongside Japanese ISP E-Mobile's launch of its HSDPA service, so Internet connectivity (Opera Mobile!) is clearly what this device is all about (in addition to 3.6Mbps HSDPA, the EM ONE has Bluetooth 1.2 and 802.11b/g).
The 5.5" x 2.8" x 0.7" gadget weighs 8.8 ounces and is equipped with a miniSD slot, mini USB port, and 1.3-megapixel digital camera. Battery life is rated at 4 hours for . . . well, to be honest, I have no idea. The EM ONE supports music (MP3 and WMA), video (WMV), and digital TV (1Seg) playback and also has TV-out capabilities via the included cradle, so the 4-hour estimate could theoretically apply to anything except music playback.
Available in black and white, the EM ONE is priced at $333 with a two-year $50/month contract with E-Mobile ($800 without). Check out the high-res pics at Engadget and the Flash demo at the official microsite for more eye candy.
Delicious as this one may be, I still like the HTC Advantage better.
