Medion UMPC more expensive than expected

It's not often that the difference between an estimated and actual retail price is as significant (or as pleasant) as the 62% German slashing given to the T-Mobile Ameo. And today, too soon for history to repeat itself, we see the scales tip in an opposite, less-favorable direction. The Medion UMPC that was reportedly to cost just $800 upon its release this month has in fact been tagged at a dollar shy of $1,000.

The asterisk you see corresponds to an "excluding taxes, including delivery" note on the product page, which of course makes all the sub-$1K excitement . . . well . . . not so exciting. Even with its real MSRP, though, the Medion is still competitively priced. It's also the only one I know of with a 6.5" LED-backlit display, which certainly makes it stand out in a crowd of 30+ UMPCs.
