HTC Athena: Now more worthy of namesake?

It was a virtual yawn-fest when a leaked photo and snoozer specs of the upcoming HTC Athena appeared last week. The design was deliciously UMPC-like, but its reported Windows Mobile OS and 3.5-inch display were definitely not.

Fortunately, according to the::unwired's anonymous tipster, those shabby specs weren't real. Athena's "true" specs include a 5-inch 640 x 480 screen, 8GB drive, and a detachable clear plastic keyboard that doubles as a protective cover and magnet-affixed stand (I'm not sure, but I'm thinking "clamshell" here). It's also rumored to have a 3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, wireless b/g, GPS, VGA-out, and miniSD slot.

No word on pricing or availability yet, but it sounds pretty good so far. Much of the info has actually been floating around since last month, so even though the device isn't named Alethea, a lot of the rumors could very well be true.
